SUMMARY:Guest Speaker Series- Derek Maxfield\, "Sherman: Man or Monster"
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Holland Land Office Museum for the next edition of our Guest Speaker Series on Wednesday\, April 5th at 7 pm. Local professor of History at Genesee Community College\, Derek Maxfield\, will be presenting on William Tecumseh Sherman in conjunction with the release of his latest book on the Union Civil War General. Admission is $5 or $4 for museum members. Copies of Dr. Maxfield’s book will also be available for purchase\, and he will be signing any copies after the presentation. If you would like to attend please contact the museum at 585-343-4727 or hollandlandoffice@gmail.com.\n“He has been accused of ‘studied and ingenious cruelty.’ By turns he has been called a savior and a barbarian\, a hero and a villain\, a genius and a madman. But whatever you call William Tecumseh Sherman\, you must admit he is utterly fascinating.”\n“Man on Fire: William Tecumseh Sherman in the Civil War tells the story of a man who found himself in war- and that\, in turn\, secured him a place in history. Condemned for his barbarousness or hailed for his heroics\, the life of this peculiar general is nonetheless compelling-and thoroughly American.” \n“This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrant Program\, a regrant program of the New York State Council of the Arts with the support of the office of the Governor and New York State Legislature and administered by GO ART!”
