DESCRIPTION:“Heavenly Traditions and Holy Matrimony: Weddings Through Time\,” is an exhibit that will take you through decades of wedding dress styles\, and traditions. This exhibit will show how one of the most sacred events for a couple has changed through decades and even centuries. Various influences and societal changes are at the heart of the traditions and events that hold weddings today. Come view items from the 19th century through the 20th century\, that represent different eras and how we have ended up with the weddings that we know today. DESCRIPTION:The Holland Land Office Museum is proud to announce the next edition of its Guest Speaker Series. On Wednesday\, July 24th at 7 pm\, the museum welcomes back Kevin Pawlak\, who is the Historic Site Manager for the Prince William County Historic Preservation Division and works as a Licensed Battlefield Guide at Antietam National Battlefield. He will be presenting on Western New Yorkers at the battles of Bull Run. \n“Citizens of western New York were some of the first to answer President Lincoln’s call for troops at the start of the Civil War. As such\, some of them participated in the first major battle of the Civil War at Manassas/Bull Run on July 21\, 1861. One of them\, Charles Rand\, performed one of the first battlefield efforts that resulted in a Medal of Honor. Western New Yorkers were also active in the Battle of Second Bull Run fought on the same ground thirteen months later. Hear the stories of some of these soldiers from the homefront to the battlefield.” Admission is $5 or $3 for museum members.
